#IssaEATS: Sibyullee Flavors of Seoul @ Ayala Malls the 30th

Ever since I first started dating my boyfriend, the only things I've been eating were either homemade food or anything Western with my family. Now that he's back home and my mom's still in the US (who'll thankfully be back home in less than two weeks!), I've literally been scrimping and living off coffee and oatmeal. If not for my dad and sister (and lovely friends who love to drink), I'd probably be losing weight!

So obviously, I haven't been to a samgyup date, with the last time I had something close to Korean food being instant ramen. I was fine without it, really. I used to believe this was the last Asian cuisine I would be eating (with Chinese or Japanese unquestionably being at the top of my list). But then I tried out Sibyullee.

Sibyullee: Flavors of Seoul

Sibyullee (named after a village market located in Sariwon), is the third concept of the Happyfoods Group. But compared to the traditional dishes of Sariwon and the Korean-Mexican fusion of Soban (both of which I reviewed last year), Sibyullee offers more than just the usual, catering to those looking for delicious modern Korean barbecue.

When you enter the restaurant, you're greeted with a bright and relaxing atmosphere. With its interior design inspired by the traditional Korean house but with a modern touch, the place feels inviting and open without the fancy, over-the-top decor. The area is big, great for meetings, family dinners, or even during date night with your friends or partners.

Unli Korean Barbecue Promo!

But I'm not here to judge the place by interior design alone. I came here for the food and unli Korean barbecue! The restaurant has a ton of dishes and set meals to offer, including the popular Cheese Dakgalbi that everyone knows and loves. However, the highlight isn't just one dish- It's the unlimited meats and side dishes!

Their Unlimited Korean BBQ Promo is pretty straightforward. At least two people need to order the promo, and you can have two kinds of meat at a time.

As for the price, it's a great deal:

Mondays to Fridays:
Lunch (11AM to 4PM) - 499 PHP
Dinner (4PM onwards) - 549 PHP

Weekends
Lunch and Dinner (whole day, no time limit) - 549 PHP

Hold On! How Many Choices?

I was a bit shocked that for its price, Sibyullee offered unlimited sets of TEN different kinds of meats, as well as five popular side dishes, soup, and rice. Here are the ten Korean BBQs you can choose from:
  • Samgyupsal
  • Soy Garlic Samgyupsal
  • Spicy Pork Bulgogi
  • Sweet and Spicy Pork Bulgogi
  • Chili Bean Samgyupsal
  • Woo Samgyup
  • Yangnyeom Woo Samgyup
  • Marinated Bulgogi
  • Salt and Pepper Chicken
  • Spicy Chicken
  • Gyeranjim (a bonus- which is steamed egg)

All the choices were absolutely delicious, with the Spicy Pork Bulgogi and Marinated Bulgogi being at the top of my list. It's juicy, tender, and well-marinated with just the right amount of spice! I recommend that you start off with the classic Samgyupsal and work your way up to the Salt & Pepper Chicken and Sweet & Spicy Pork Bulgogi.

I also give props to the Gyeranjim, a simple appetizer but oh-so fluffy. It's a great pair with any of the meats, as the egg balances out the salt and savoriness of it.

What Else Comes With the Deal?

As for the side dishes, there are five you can indulge in:

  • Pickled Radish
  • Kimchi
  • Salad
  • Mashed Sweet Potato
  • Vegetable Pancake

My favorites had to be the Pickled Radish and Kimchi. The Pickled Radish because, well, I love anything pickled and sour, and the Kimchi because it was spicy and didn't taste store-bought (it was made in their kitchen, not outsourced).

With the unli-BBQ deal, you can also get unlimited soup and rice. The soup, I can honestly do without. But with the rice… I was really put to the test and suffered while I said no to seconds! Steaming and with a delicate texture, I was really tempted to have ten bowls of that while I feasted on at least a kilo of Spicy Pork Bulgogi.

I made do with wrapping lettuce, which was delicious too, especially as I comforted myself by promising I'd have more rice the next time I come back.

What Else Can You Order?

While we didn't get to taste the other dishes (how can I, when I feel like I ate an entire kilo of meat?), they did bring out some things to match the KBBQ.

The Japchae (300 PHP) was very delicious, with both sweet and savory flavors brought out without one being too overpowering over the other. The noodles were chewy and filling, mixed with a generous amount of vegetables and beef slices to boost its tastiness. This is good for two people or one hungry person.

As for drinks, I got their Ripe Mango Shake (125 PHP), their best seller. It wasn't the best drink I've had, as it was sweeter than anticipated. Still, I appreciate it since I wanted something sweet without having to go for ice cream or their other desserts (my stomach has its limits!).

Besides these, they offer Korean street snacks, individual meats and traditional dishes, as well as BBQ sets and weekday solo lunches at affordable price!

Would I Come Back?

I JUST said I'd come back, this time with my stomach ready for all the rice and samgyup! After chatting with a few friends who are secretly KBBQ experts (or addicts), I can see why Sibyullee is worth the price.

Compared to other lower-priced areas, you can't beat its atmosphere, welcoming staff, and quality of their food. With different flavors of meat and the same "bouncy" texture and fatty, indulgent flavors, Sibyullee feels and tastes more traditional than any other kind of KBBQ place that boasts of its cheap price. *

* I appreciate affordable buffets, but I have my opinions on it, which I'll be talking about this month!

I'll most likely be back for their buffet but their other al a carte items seem inviting. Whether you're there for lunch, a snack, or just want to go all out for your cheat day, Sibyullee is definitely a great place to go for your Korean food cravings!
